Listed below is the job description for our Network Field Infrastructure Technician position. This position offers an hourly wage of $19.00 (depending upon experience and location).
General Summary
The Network Field Infrastructure Technician position is part of a team that actively maintains the Company's network infrastructure including wired and wireless backhaul and distribution; installation of new distribution access points and preventative maintenance of Internet Protocol (IP) network components. This position is also responsible for the proactive monitoring and correction of network related issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Climb communications towers and ladders; safely work in an elevated position
Maintain backhaul network; repair network outages
Identify potential performance bottle necks in the system
Ensure proper site operation; inspect cable and electrical equipment
Collaborate with customer care department; recognize possible service degradation
Identify and design potential new areas to be developed
Contact homeowners and site managers; to ensure installation satisfaction
Work with current installation and service staff; resolve individual customer problems
Provide prompt response to network issues; conduct preventative or proactive network repair outside of normal business hours when required
Work with network, installation and customer care department to achieve operational objectives
Troubleshoot physical layer problems with radio frequency (RF) links; resolve IP network issue problems
Identify potential network issues; proactively react to situations before they escalate
Complete network performance audits; maintain detailed information of network operations
Maintain detailed activity logs; update network documentation; prepare detailed reports of events which negatively impact customer service
Work within the Company's geographical footprint; perform installation and service work
Participate in scheduled corporate and divisional Safety Committee meetings
Assist with new technician training
Interact with internal and external subscribers on escalated issues; conduct research and follow up on issues
Communicate and liaise with all other Company departments; notify appropriate parties immediately of any issues which may affect efficient operations including, but not limited to, outages, service disruptions, tower volume and repeated customer complaints
Work requires weekend and/or evening work and some travel is required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Must have a valid driver license to drive within the Company's geographical footprint
One (1) year in related network operations or engineering roles required
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Streets and Trips, Micropath and other job related software
Basic knowledge of networking and electronics theory; basic understanding of electrical codes and standards relative to residential or commercial communications cabling
Basic working knowledge of RF wireless technologies and product; wireless planning, design and deployment processes
Basic understanding of IP networking
Certified Climber/Rescuer preferred
Customer service oriented with passion for high customer satisfaction and achieving operational excellence; ability to interact with all levels of staff including senior management, internal and external customers
Ability to analyze and define problems; calculate figures and amounts; prioritize work flow, multitask, meet deadlines and remain flexible
Must be able to demonstrate attention to accuracy on all duties and responsibilities
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Must comply with Company and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) established safety policies and requirements
Physical Demands and Working Environment
Physical demands: While performing duties of job, employee is constantly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to frequently climb ladders and communication towers and work in an elevated position up to three hundred (300) feet. On a constant basis, the incumbent must safely lift, carry and maneuver heavy or awkward objects one hundred (100) pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Full spectrum color vision required.
Work environment: Must be able to work safely in a field environment. Must be adept at working in adverse weather conditions. Frequent work in an office environment.
Daily travel within the Company's geographical footprint and external destinations is required.
